Sexual Pain & Difficulties
Pain or discomfort with sexual activity is common, but it isn't something you simply have to put up with. It can affect people at any stage of life and may have a significant impact on relationships, confidence and wellbeing.
You may experience pain with penetration, difficulty with penetration, pelvic floor tightness, pain during or after sex, reduced comfort with sexual activity, or changes following childbirth, surgery or other pelvic health conditions.
There can be many contributing factors, including pelvic floor muscle tension, vulval or vaginal conditions, hormonal changes, endometriosis, previous pain or injury, surgery and other pelvic health concerns. Sometimes several factors contribute at the same time.
Pelvic health physiotherapy can help you understand what may be contributing to your symptoms. Assessment and treatment are always individualised and may include education, pelvic floor muscle assessment, relaxation and coordination work, gentle exercises, advice around comfortable movement and strategies to gradually return to activities that are important to you.
Your comfort and consent are central to treatment. We can work at your pace and focus on what feels appropriate and helpful for you.
