Pregnancy & Postpartum Pelvic Health
Pregnancy, birth and the months following childbirth can bring many changes to your pelvic floor and your bladder, bowel and sexual function. Some changes are temporary, while others may continue and benefit from assessment and support.
You may experience bladder leakage, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic or back pain, bowel changes, pelvic floor weakness or tension, abdominal separation, or pain with sex. You may also feel unsure about returning to exercise, running or other activities after having a baby.
Pelvic health physiotherapy can help you understand these changes and support your recovery. Assessment can look at your pelvic floor muscles, abdominal wall, bladder and bowel symptoms, pain and your goals for returning to movement and exercise.
Treatment is individualised and may include pelvic floor rehabilitation, relaxation and coordination exercises, advice about bladder and bowel function, scar management, strategies for managing pressure through the pelvic floor, and guidance for gradually returning to exercise and activities you enjoy.
Your recovery doesn't have to look like anyone else's. Whether you're pregnant, recently had a baby, or are still experiencing symptoms well beyond the early postpartum period, support is available.
